Things You Did Today 7/11/12

As we were pulling out of the driveway today, it was raining. Linus waved out the window and said, "Bye, flowers! Drink enough coffee!" Because, you know... coffee rains from the sky. I love my little coffee man.

Both kids marched into the living room today and declared, "We're twins!". I've told them that they're twins maybe three times ever, and today wasn't one of those times. Wonder where that revelation came from...

Max Is Crying

Linus,

Tonight one of the books we read before bed was Where the Wild Things Are. When we got to the page where Max is sailing back to his house, you said, "Max crying."

I said, "Why do you think Max is crying?"

You were silent for a few moments before you replied, "Sad."

I asked why Max is sad, and you told me, "Time out."

I gave you an extra cuddle and told you that I love you even when you're in time out.

After getting time out for biting your sister this morning, it seemed to be just the thing you needed to hear.

You're just about the sweetest little fella ever. Always be my guy, promise?

Another Proud Mommy Post

Both Linus and Veda love scribbling. They'll ask for pencils and then get to work on any scrap of paper they can find. Sometimes they'll tell me they're drawing circles, but usually they're just gleefully scribbling.

Until a couple of days ago, when Veda did this:

Ignore the green magic marker, and look at the pencil marks. Every time she made one of those marks, she said a letter. Wow.

With all this pre-literacy stuff going on, I am one proud mama for sure.

Wise Guy

Isn't it annoying when you come across Internet litter from moms who claim that their 6 month olds are doing long division or that their three year olds have already mastered five languages? I hope this post doesn't come across like that. I'm just proud of my little man.

This kid is counting up to five objects at a time. We're not just talking memorizing a string of words. I mean that he understands that four is more than three and that he can tell me how many cheerios or blocks or crayons are on the table. Well, up to five of them.

AND he's recognizing some letters. He'd been handing me a foam X in the bathtub and saying "K" (hey, they are pretty similar looking), but I was not expecting what happened at the library on Monday. The library puts down a cool rug for storytime. It's a world map surrounded by the letters in A-Z order. First he pointed to the H and said "H". I was surprised but thinking that he had a 1 in 26 chance of making a good guess and thought it could just be a coincidence. Then he pointed to the I beside it and said "I". Wow. I had to pick up my jaw to tell him that he was right, and I could see the lady sitting beside us do a double take. Today while we were working on the alphabet puzzle he labeled a few other letters as he placed them in their slots on the puzzle.

What a guy.

Things You Did Today 2

The babies were safely in their high chairs, so I turned back to the stove to whisk our cream of wheat.

honk

The neighbor must be locking her car.

honk...........honk. honk....honk.... honk.honk.honk.....honk

Slightly annoyed, I opened the door to find the source of the noise. Nothing. Back to the kitchen.

honk....honk...honk..honk......honk. honk.....honk

At this point, I was thoroughly annoyed.

honk....honk..honk..honk

Imagining this going on for the rest of the morning (and the dog barking at the noise the enire morning), I started to consider calling the police to complain.

honk...honk....honk...honk

ARGH!

honk..honk

I turned to look at the babies and noticed.... hey, Veda is holding my keys.

And pushing the buttons.

Things You Did Today

This morning while I was getting Linus dressed, Veda discovered the small box of doughnuts the husband had left on the back of the couch when he went to bed. I found her with two doughnuts in her lap, exactly one bite out of each one. She was savoring a piece of glaze left on her lip, her expression tied up in the way pretentious people do when talking about wine. The best part is that as I approached, she actually picked up the doughnuts and handed them to me.
